Birding Update:
TOM WALSH: Among the many great signs of spring on our beautiful golf course is the blooming of our birdhouses. We've got 41 of them now, at last count. Around 35 of those are very visible in open areas bordered by trees, the preferred habitats for most of our nesters, near your tees, fairways, and greens.
Tenants are arriving, and as of April 24th, nesting is underway in 9 of those nesting boxes. All of them are Eastern Bluebird nests. Tree Swallows, our top customers in terms of birdhouse nesting numbers every year, will start building nests shortly.
So we hope you're enjoying the visual pleasures that birdhouses provide, but please confine yourselves to looking only!
Meaning, we ask that you please don't open any of them. I monitor all the boxes on pretty specific schedules and with careful protocol to avoid disturbing the occupants. So, respectfully, please look but don't touch. Thanks a lot for your cooperation. (photos below. Left, a likely Bluebird nest including a Wild Turkey feather, April 23rd, 7th hole. Club Notes:
As we draw near to the end of early season play, we would like to remind you that doing your part to help maintain the golf course improves the experience for all players and reduces the strain on our greens staff, allowing them to focus their time and efforts on other course improvements. Please help to maintain the course by fixing ball marks, replacing divots, and raking all bunkers.
If you have any items you would like included in future updates please let us know.
